Blogging in the EFL Classroom?
Dec 28th, 2009 by Susan
Please Note: These assignments (found just below the presentation) should be completed by 11/01/2010
Last week we thought about blogs in terms of our own professional development. You each opened your own Professional Learning Blogs.
1) Please visit the blogs of the other participants (they are linked in the column on the right under the title “Our Blogs”), read at least one post in each blog and leave a short comment in which you relate to the content of the post.
2) Now let’s consider blogging in the EFL classroom.
The British Council Blogging for ELT describes 3 types of blog used in language teaching as outlined by Aaron Campbell in his article Weblogs for Use with ESL Classes
After reading the 2 articles linked above, visit some of the blogs in the attached list. I wonder what kind of blog could you see yourself using in your classes? How do you think it would benefit your classes From what you know about blogs and blogging what would you need to consider before introducing blogs to your students?
Please reflect on the above questions in a new post in your own blog. Where possible add links to relevant examples either from the attached list or that you have found on the internet.
*This post does not necessarily have to be completely in print you could use other forms of media to present your ideas.
Points to remember:
- A blog is an online journal
- Posts are displayed chronologically the newest post always appears on top
- Readers are usually encouraged to comment on posts, however the blog owner can disallow commenting per post or choose to moderate before comments are published
- Blogs can also have pages for content which is not updated regularly eg. About Pages, Guidelines, Resources etc
3) Learn how to perform at least one of the of the following: customizing your blog theme, managing comments, adding widgets, adding video or other media.
See Video Tutorials for Edublogs Basic Actions here or use the edublogs help pages and edublogs support forum in order to discover the different options your blog supports. You can also share advice and questions on our forum.
